A refreshing summer beverage indeed

Where to find the best aguas frescas in San Antonio

The Alamo City’s drink scene is endless. Whether you’re looking for happy hour specials with coworkers, or want to catch up with friends at chic coffee shops, there’s a sip for everyone.

Here at SATXtoday, we cover local establishments serving coffee, cocktails, mocktails, smoothies, and even soda. But what about the refreshing agua fresca?

Agua fresca 101

The agua fresca comes from Mexico and is a fruit-based, nonalcoholic beverage. All you need to make this drink is water, choice of fruit, sweetner, and a splash of lime juice (if you’re feeling citrusy).

During Fiesta in April, you’ll find agua fresca stands littered all over the city (as well as other iconic Fiesta foods).

The common flavors include:
  • Watermelon
  • Horchata
  • Jamaica (hibiscus)
  • Pineapple
  • Lime
  • Tamarind

Where to find aguas frescas around San Antonio

Viva La Calle, multiple locations
City Editor Nicholas here, I highly recommend the Cucumber Limeade or the Vegan Horchata.

Con Huevos Tacos, 1629 E. Houston St.
Pair any of this spot’s freshly made aguas frescas with its breakfast tacos. Pro tip: Ask about the agua fresca flavor of the day.

Elotitos Corn Bar, 1933 Fredericksburg Rd.
If corn is your vibe, then you’ve come to the right place. Order a flight of both corn + drinks for the ultimate foodie adventure.

La Elotera, 1009 Ave. B
Located inside the El Camino food truck park, treat yourself to an SATX corn staple like the Hoodrat — made with mayo, lime, Hot Cheetos, and chile. Wash it down with the Piña Agua Fresca.

Fruteria Limon y Chile, 2017 Austin Hwy.
In addition to classic agua fresca flavors, this northeast side outpost serves up Mexican hot dogs, nachos, tostadas, and a Redbull Preparado.
