ICYMI, March is National Nutrition Month, an annual healthy eating campaign hosted by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 1973.
Lettuce explain. This year’s theme, “Beyond the Table,” details the journey of nutrition from food production and distribution to choosing fresh fruits + veggies at supermarkets, local shops, and farmers markets. It also highlights home food safety, storage practices, and the various ways we eat.
This month-long initiative serves as a reminder to keep nutrition as a top priority by making healthy choices, like:
Planning meals ahead of time
Adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals
Making time to be physically active for at least 30 minutes a day
Throughout March (and beyond), Metro Health encourages you to stay nourished on any budget by eating a variety of colorful foods. Pro tip: Include your favorite cultural foods and traditions to make meals even more meaningful.

The outdoors are for everybody — and there are plenty of hikes in our area that are friendly to wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids. Get some fresh air on three of our favorite accessible trails.
Most of the Mission Trail is accessible, and there are many paved paths around each of the major sites. The sites also loan out wheelchairs and the ranger-led tours are on paved sections. Read the park’s accessibility page for more info.
Enjoy views of the stream bed as you take in the great outdoors. This 11.9-mile trail is paved, relatively flat, and typically about 6-ft wide. We recommend parking at the Grissom Road lot where there are two designated accessible spots.
What’s your go-to wheelchair-accessible trail? Let us know where we should explore next.
Flower pots, solar lights, or lemon trees in QVC’s garden deals. “Love your garden” items are on sale until Thursday, March 28, meaning it’s the perfect time to start dreaming up this year’s outdoor spaces.
Raise your hand if moving stresses you out — raises both hands and feet. I’m currently towards the end of this transition, and it has been a wild ride. What has gotten me through this time? Attempting to eat something healthy each day, the occasional glass of wine, and lots of cuddles with my dog, Benny.
