How to register to vote in San Antonio

According to the most recent US census data, as many as one in four Americans may not be registered to vote. As of 2022, there are 1.23 million residents in Bexar County that are currently registered. Let’s help add to that.

Plan ahead: The San Antonio General Election for Mayor and City Council is happening on Saturday, May 3.

Double-check your registration status

You only need to update your voter registration status when you move (otherwise your ballot gets sent to the wrong place), but it’s best to double-check to make sure everything’s correct ahead of time.

Find your registration status on the Vote Texas website and see what items will be on your next ballot. It only takes a few seconds to fill out.

Register, if you need to

Not registered? Don’t sweat it. You can:

Register online through the Texas Secretary of State’s website to print, sign, and mail your application.
Call the Voter Registration office at 210-335-VOTE (8683) and request an application.
Find voter registration applications at local libraries, government offices, or high schools.

Watch for these upcoming dates

Thursday, April 3 — Last day to register to vote online or by mail.
Tuesday, April 22 — Last day to apply for ballot by mail
Tuesday, April 22 to Tuesday, April 29 — Early voting period.
Saturday, May 3 — Election Day — it’s the big day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

News Notes

Traffic

Starting next Monday (Oct. 2), Cesar Chavez will close both westbound and eastbound traffic at Santa Rosa through the end of November for construction. During this time, the west side of Santa Rosa will remain open for north and southbound traffic.

Number

297. That’s how many employees were laid off in Bexar County from three agencies — Aramark Services, Compass United and Watts Regulators Co. Half are food service workers at Christus Health hospitals, who expect to retain jobs with a new vendor contractor come Nov. 1. (Express News)

Festival

The San Antonio Pumpkin Festival is returning this fall at 1603 Broadway St. Beginning this Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 29., this festival will include pumpkin houses, hay rides, and the world’s largest pumpkin bouncy house. Tickets are on sale for $12.

Award

Over the weekend, three local breweries won awards at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Second Pitch Beer Co. and Longtab Brewing Co. received gold medals in the American Amber Lager and American-Belgo-Style Ale categories. Roadmap Brewing Co. won a silver medal in the Historical Beer category.

Real Estate

The owners of Jefferson Bodega, Luke and Lisa Horgen, are selling the business after four years in operation for $1.7 million. The local convenience store made popular for its specialty beer and imported snacks also served as a place for community events and markets. Check out the current listing.

Plan Ahead

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is returning to the Alamo City in October. Come out on Saturday, Oct. 21 to North Star Mall (at the corner of 410 and McCollough Rd.) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to shop for treats and merchandise while supplies last at this cashless pop-up.

Sports

Texas Dog Co. is hosting a Halloween-themed Monster Smash Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 14 starting at 6 p.m. Register your team today via email at info@texasdog.co for $150. The cashless fees are due on the day of the tournament.

I am team pancakes. Growing up, my mom use to make them for my sister Danney and I all the time, even though my sister preferred French toast. My go-to pancake order is chocolate chip pancakes with butter and hot syrup. You cannot forget the hot syrup, it can make or break the entire stack.
