Picture this. Sunday rolls around, birds are chirping, sun is streaking through the blinds, the barbacoa is fresh, the guacamole is on the table, your glass is filled with Big Red, but uh-oh we’re missing something — pan dulce.

You can’t have the San Antonio Sunday breakfast without sweet bread, so we’re here to help with a roundup of six local panadería’s.
City Editor Nick’s family has been coming to this spot since he was a child, and it fills him with nostalgia and sweets. From conchas (the yellow sugar one is the best and he will die on that hill) to tortugas and pink cakes, this is your one-stop shop for all things sweet
bread.

La Poblanita Bakery, 2411 N. Zarzamora St.

Light and airy conchas with a cup of champurrado makes for the perfect morning pairing. They also have sugar donuts and custard-filled empanadas.

Freshly made tortillas as well as year-round buenuelos, what more can you want?

Caballero Bakery, 2342 Pinn Rd.

Serving up iconic staples like the pink cookie and chocolate cakes as well as banana nut bread cuernitos. Pro tip: The mini conchas are perfect for any special occasion.

El Folklor Bakery, Multiple locations

This delicious place offers ojo de buey’s, orejas, as well as sheet cakes, cookies, muffins, and conchas. They also serve tamales and barbacoa on the weekends.

  • Magnolia Pancake Haus is moving out of its Embassy location. The restaurant is relocating to 2070 N. Loop 1604. The Embassy location will be closed from Monday, June 5 to Thursday, June 8 for the move, with an unofficial opening of Stone Oak on Friday, June 9.

  • Superhero Comic Con & Car Show is returning to the Alamo City this summer. The event is quickly approaching and the celebrity appearances keep rolling in. The Queen of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke, will make her San Antonio debut at the show. Tickets are on sale now.

  • VIA will host two public meetings for community input on proposed service changes. The changes include routes 32 Steves and 552 Loop 410/WW White Skip. They’re scheduled to be implemented this August. Submit your Feedback before the meetings — Monday, June 12 + Tuesday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m.
