Cinco de Mayo honors Mexico’s victory over French forces in the Battle of Puebla in 1862 — a major symbol of the country’s fight for independence.

Cinco de Mayo Concert Celebration | Plaza Guadalupe

The colorful Guadalupe Dance Company is also not to be missed and will perform to live music of the orchestra on four well-known Mexican tunes. The free event will include hands on activities for kids and for the young-of-heart of all ages from 7-9:30 p.m.

Art
  • Calling all art collectors. The McNay is hosting its 27th annual Print Fair on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 7 from 12 to 5 p.m. Fifteen dealers from around the country will show and offer thousands of prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs.
  • Speaking of art — the Contemporary at the Blue Star Art Complex is hosting a free art book fair tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. This one night event promotes artists’ work, books, monographs, zines, and other printed media. Parking at the event is $15. (SA Current)

  • A new exhibition is coming to the San Antonio Botanical Garden, “Imaginary Worlds: Once Upon A Time”, and is set to open this Saturday, May 6 at 8 a.m. Eight giant topiaries have planted themselves throughout the garden to make their Texas-sized debut. These marvelous creatures were previously on display at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. (SA Current)

  • This year’s Valero Texas Open, along with Valero Benefit for Children, raked in a record setting $23 million. With these funds, charities are able to provide educational opportunities, basic needs, and healthcare programs for thousands of people. Did you miss early voting? Don’t worry, VIA has you covered on Election Day. The San Antonio General Election Day is Saturday, May 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check out our voting guide to see what’s on the ballot.

Since launching the Ride VIA to Vote initiative in March 2016, the agency has provided more than 2,000 trips for people on Election Day.

The Ride VIA to Vote initiative provides fare-free public transportation to local, state, and federal elections.

These services are available on Election Day:
