The weather is cooling down, and it’s the perfect time to put on your hiking boots. New to hiking? No worries. We’re sharing five local hiking groups to get you started — plus, a newly opened trail to check out.
🥾 San Antonio Outdoor Adventures
With over 13,000 members, this local hiking group schedules hikes every weekend — both in town and at nearby state parks. This group is free to join, and their hikes are moderate to fast-paced, depending on the terrain.
Don’t miss their upcoming seven-mile hike at Guadalupe River State Park on Sat., Oct. 29 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. It’s free, but individual state park day passes are required.
🥾 San Antonio Beginners Hiking Group
If you’re brand spanking new to hiking, this is a perfect group to join. They’re inclusive and great for anyone looking for exercise that isn’t at the fitness level of more advanced hikers.
Get in an evening hike this Thurs. Oct., 6-7:30 p.m. at Crownridge Canyon Park, just north of The Shops a La Cantera.
🥾 City Girls Who Walk SATX
This TikTok-inspired group held its first walk back in June, and now they’re coming up on their 20th this week. All about empowering female wellness and community, they also host bowling and rollercade nights.
🥾 Hikerbabes
Another local hiking group geared towards women, you can find their group of over 1,000 members on Facebook.
🥾 Energetic Hikers Ages 60+
For older active hikers, this group is for brisk and energetic outdoor enthusiasts. They host four weekly hikes, and all hikes take place on weekdays to avoid crowds. A $6-7 annual membership fee is required.
New Hiking Trail Alert
The Madla Greenway just celebrated its ribbon cutting last week, welcoming San Antonio’s newest hiking trail. This one-mile loop (with more to come) connects to Texas A&M San Antonio on the Southside.

The H-E-B at 6580 FM Rd. 78 will undergo a $1.7 million remodel. According to a public filing, the 37,000-sqft project will break ground in June next year and wrap up near the end of the year. 🍎

The City of San Antonio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission launched its eighth annual citywide art contest. Student artists are encouraged to submit a visual representation in the theme of “Together We Can Be THE Dream.” Check out the official contest instructions online. 🖼️
Concert
Journey will make a stop in the Alamo City on its 50th Anniversary Celebration Freedom Tour in 2023. The legendary rock band will perform on Tues., April 4 at the AT&T Center. Tickets for the general public go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. 🎸 (KSAT-12)
Edu
The new Innovation Center at St. Mary’s University will break ground this Fri., Oct. 21. The state-of-the-art, 30,000-sqft center will join the School of Science, Engineering and Technology in serving as an incubator for innovative ideas and programs. 🔬

San Antonio’s first and original food truck park, “Boardwalk,” is returning with some added upgrades. Cruising Kitchens plans to revive the spot with plans for a two-story renovation at 14732 Bulverde Rd. Check out the renderings. 🚚 (MySA)
