The San Antonio Street Art Initiative — an artist-run, independent nonprofit looking to build the largest outdoor gallery in Texas — will host its first Youth Street Art Exhibit and Fundraiser on Sat., Oct. 8.
The exhibit, named TZOMPANTLI, will be featured as part of the A Day in Southtown festival, which will be free and open to the public.
About SASAI’s commitment to youth
The nonprofit launched its Youth Street Art Department and new Youth Art Program early this month. Here’s a quick snapshot of how it works.
Learning skills: 10 high school students were recruited to learn spray paint handling and other fine art techniques. All received stipends.
High profile resume building: The program features projects sponsored by corporate brands to help students build impressive resumes.
Mentorship: Taught in four-week cycles, the program is instructed and lead by contemporary Chicano artist Rubio.
Support local artists
The inaugural program cohort is currently preparing for SpiritLandia, the largest Day of the Dead river parade and Celebration in the US.
The community will have an opportunity to take a sneak peek at the students’ progress at SASAI’s studio during the festival. Prints of the students’ works will be sold to raise funds.
You can head to the SASAI Art Gallery at 1906 Complex, 1906 S. Flores St. to help fund the next generation of artists.

Dude Perfect is hoping to build a new ~$100 million HQ in Texas. | Rendering by Overland Partners
YouTube superstar team Dude Perfect has contracted the help of local architecture firm Overland Partners to make their roughly $100 million dream a reality.
Boasting over 58 million subscribers, the group has been working with Overland for about a year, creating conceptual designs while planning to pitch the landmark development to various cities.
Overland Senior Principal Bryan Trubey shared with Sports Business Journal that the group plans to build the three-story headquarters in North Texas but is also considering other cities such as Los Angeles and Atlanta.
These Texans know the motto Dude Perfect’s five co-founders all hail from Texas and were once former college roommates at Texas A&M University.
The group is currently based in Frisco, but that may change should the project land elsewhere — ahem, perhaps even San Antonio? Click the button below to see how “everything is bigger in Texas” has taken on a whole new meaning to these Lone Star State natives.
Editor’s pick: There’s nothing quite like a week of weather under 90º after an incredibly hot, dry summer. While it’s not exactly my ideal 72º-with-a-breeze fall day, I still fully plan on pretending like it is by grabbing a hot chocolate from La Panadería in my favorite flannel.
