Construction projects do come to an end in San Antonio.
If you’ve been to Civic Park at Hemisfair in the past six months, you may have seen fences blocking off the far north and east parts of the park — and the giant Monarch Hotel that’s coming soon. You’re looking at Phase II, and the construction fences are coming down Friday, March 7.
We got an inside tour of the new space and we’re here to breakdown what you can expect.
New additions to Civic Park
While the beautiful mixed-use Monarch Hotel is still under construction, visitors of Civic Park can enjoy these new amenities:
- Source Plaza: This is where pedestrians will enter at the corner of Market Street and South Alamo Street near the Torch of Friendship. This is an amphitheater-like space which offers seating, shade, and room for outdoor performances in the future.
- The Promenade: This walkway features freshly planted trees that offer shade and connects all the way from downtown to Southtown.
- The Zócalo: Check out the charming fountain, grab a bistro table to chat with friends, and continue on to the heart of Civic Park.
- The Stage: This section is still under construction but will offer a designated home for concerts and large events on the north side of the Great Lawn.
Grand opening event
While the fences come down tomorrow, Hemsifair is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 18 at 10 a.m. where the organization + city leaders will celebrate the milestone — and you’re invited.
More to come
As we reported before, the Monarch Hotel will soon open its doors in 2026 and will feature 186 rooms, terrace pool, rooftop restaurant, and more. But that’s not at all.
Hemisfair’s CEO Andres Andujar stated that big events are in the works to draw more visitors to the district like the 20th anniversary San Antonio Beer Festival on Oct. 18.
Andujar wants to remind us that, “This isn’t my park or Hemisfair’s — it’s yours.”
