Howdy, San Antonio 👋 It’s been 51 days — not that we’re counting or anything — since our company retreat in Nashville, TN (hosted by 6AM City).
We can’t help but imagine, “What if the next retreat was in San Antonio?”
Today, we want to propose a list of reasons to choose our beautiful city + hopefully inspire you to spend an unforgettable time with your own coworkers and friends in the Alamo City.
Consider this as us formally throwing SATX in the ring for the perfect company retreat destination. 🎉
📍 Location, location, location…
Planning a retreat for 100+ of your best buds can be a logistical feat. That’s why choosing a hotel in an area with a great walkability score is crucial. Luckily for us, there are plenty of incredible options for lodging downtown that allow for easy, walkable access to food + festivities.
We’d suggest lodging locally with Hotel Valencia Riverwalk or Hotel Havana for a unique stay with puro downtown views.
👀 Sightseeing galore
Close proximity to the River Walk would be ideal for traveling between iconic SATX sightseeing spots. Think: walking from the Selena Bridge to The Alamo takes only about 10 minutes, with the historic Majestic Theater only ~5 minutes from both.
Wanting to get out of downtown without an Uber? Take a GO RIO river shuttle — not to be confused with the usual narrated cruises — and explore the beautiful Pearl District + Museum Reach.
🍽️ An official foodie paradise
Did you know that SATX is one of only two US cities (the other being Tucson, AZ) dubbed a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO? In other words, our food is really really good. But it also means our culinary culture is a driving force for promoting sustainable and inclusive spaces.
From incredible rooftop bars to local restaurants pioneering plant-based cuisine, there’s no doubt in our minds that our coworkers (and yours) will thank us.
But don’t take it from us, here is what our coworkers have to say…
- “Me, a cowgirl at heart, would have to customize a cowboy hat at a local shop!” - City Editor Skylar, NASHtoday
- “I went once like 10 years ago + the Pearl is what I still remember doing!” - City Editor Audrey, 608today
- “The Alamo — I’ve been obsessed since I watched ‘Pee Wee’s Big Adventure’.” - City Editor Katie, LOUtoday
- “Mangonada — SATX is where I first had one of these and now they’re one of my very favorite treats!” - Editorial Director Sarah, 6AM City
- “I’d want to go on Mission Trail!” - Managing Editor Ana, 6AM City
- “MICHELADAS!” - Multi-City Editor Dayten, 6AM City
- “Mexican food! Seattle has notoriously slim pickings, and so I’d be all about eating as much authentic, locally-recommended Mexican food as possible.” -Managing Editor Britt, 6AM City
- “Take me to a hole-in-the-wall with good Mexican food or a cool, unique bar to make the flight less painful.” - City Editor Alyson, SJCtoday
- “Historic Market Square! When I was growing up, my family and I would visit there at least once a year! Of course, I love shopping at La Cantera, too! Oh, depending if it’s that time of year, have some fun downtown during Fiesta!” - City Editor Vagney, ATXtoday
The proof is in the puddin’, y’all. So, is that a yes?
