This month, the Briscoe Western Art Museum is bringing together the two best parts of February in the Alamo City — love + the West.
The Pony Express Love Letters returns to spread the love across San Antonio and bring back the art of traditional correspondence for its seventh year, now through Sat., Feb. 12 (just in time for the Briscoe staff to hand-deliver these letters for Valentine’s Day).
This year, visitors are encouraged to stop by during regular museum hours and craft letters of support and encouragement to the frontline healthcare workers + hospital staff helping to keep our communities safe and healthy.
We decided to head to the museum after viewing the Western Heritage Parade (we even wrote a letter ourselves).
Here’s what you can expect:
- Supplies and inspiration will be provided — no need to bring anything but yourself.
- Need a bit of help to get the creative juices flowin’? Fill in a Valentine’s Mad Lib for a light-hearted touch.
- Draw inspiration from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Western Art Contest winners on display adjacent to the love letter station.
The western love doesn’t stop there. Join the museum at its McNutt Sculpture Garden for Sips and Sounds of the West on Fri., Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening under the stars with live music featuring singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Clint Tomerlin and band.
Pro tip: make this the perfect date spot as the lights of downtown illuminate the background.
The love letter station will be available during this event, making it the opportunity to write a letter to a healthcare worker + your special someone. Let’s spread the amor, San Antonio.
Love, SATXtoday. 💌
