Dreaming of gold: Olympians with ties to San Antonio competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics

The Alamo City is well represented on the world stage at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics — these are some locals to watch.

Light the torch and cue that iconic Olympics theme song — we’re ready for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics happening now through Sunday, Aug. 11.

At this summer’s Olympic Games, approximately 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees will compete across 32 sports — including some new ones. Since we’re all about keeping it local, we’ve rounded up five Paris 2024 Olympians with ties to Texas that you should keep your eye on. Let the Games begin.

Simone Biles, Gymnastics
These history-making Olympian needs no introduction. From Spring, TX, Biles holds seven Olympic and 30 World Championship medals. Catch her perform Tuesday, July 30 in the team final.

Keith Sanderson, Shooting

Hailing from the Alamo City as a John Marshall High School graduate, Sanderson is a pistol-wielding Olympian. He has competed in 2008, 2012, and 2016 games.

Scottie Scheffler, Golf

This pro golfer — and winner of the Masters Tournament in 2022 and 2024 — lives in Dallas, but is a University of Texas alum. Men’s Golf begins Thursday, Aug. 1.

Hezly Rivera, Gymnastics

Rivera is a 2024 Winter Cup balance beam champion and is the youngest person on Team USA. She currently lives in Plano, TX. Catch Rivera in the gymnastics team final on Tuesday, July 30.

Joseph Brown, Track & Field: Men’s Discus

Having competed in 44 meets while being a student athlete at Texas A&M Commerce, Brown is a six-time All-Conference selection and a two-time Scholar Athlete.
