After a two-year hiatus, the Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Summer Games are finally returning to the Alamo City this weekend.
Whether you know a competing athlete or just want to be a part of the community, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about one of the largest Special Olympics events in the US.
What is the event? 👟
- The SOTX Summer Games is an annual competitive event for special-needs athletes that allows the community to gather + celebrate inclusivity.
- The event is designed to give those who were unable to participate in official Special Olympics sports competitions (due to skill or functional abilities) the opportunity to showcase their athletic talents.
- Think: track and field, cycling, gymnastics, soccer, tennis + FUNdamental Sports.
- Approximately 10,000 individuals — athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators from all over Texas — are expected to join in on this monumental celebration.
How can I attend? ⚽
- The SOTX Summer Games will be hosted in and around Morgan’s Wonderland theme park beginning Thurs., May 12 and lasting through Mon., May 16.
- Additionally, an opening ceremony will kick off the games on Fri., May 13 at Toyota Field from 6-8:30 p.m. followed by a celebration for athletes complete with a lighting of the Flame of Hope + fireworks.

- Volunteers will be needed to serve as officials, scorekeepers, and award presenters.
