Howdy y’all — it’s Texas Independence Day and we are feeling the Lone Star love.

Earlier this week, we rounded up a list of the most Texan things you could possibly do (beer, barbecue, cowboys, etc.), but we thought we’d one-up that by giving you a soundtrack for your day.

Here are seven albums, EP’s + singles by San Antonian musicians to listen to:

Piñata Protest | El Valiente (2013)

Hailing from the Alamo City, this Tex-Mex and punk rock band is the epitome of SA’s cultural melting pot using lyrics in both Spanish and English.

Listen to: Volver, Volver (cover)

Sleep Well. | Pictures of Dogs (2019)

Don’t let the band’s irreverent humor on social fool you, these indie musicians produce a seriously incredible sound — garnering 31,000+ listeners a month on Spotify.

Listen to: Pictures of Dogs (track)

Ada Vox | Because of You (feat. Bimbo Jones) (2018)

Ada needs no introduction. However, if you’re looking for a refresh, check out our Q+A with this accomplished vocalist, songwriter, and drag queen.

Listen to: Because of You (feat. Bimbo Jones)

Joel Adrian | Joel Adrian EP (2018)

Performing in and around the Alamo City since high school, Joel blends jazz, soul, R&B, and folk to produce a style that is all his own.

Blake | Flexin (2016)

This hardcore rapper came into the scene hot with off-kilter production style and hit single reaching over 11 million plays on Spotify.

Listen to: Flexin (single)

Trey Gonzalez | Good Thing Going (2021)

Country music lovers, we haven’t forgotten about you — Trey performs all across Texas, but you can also catch him at one of the Oyster Bake stages on Fri., April 1.

Building 12 | In Frame (2021)

Rounding out our list is one of the newest indie bands in the San Antonio music scene with a sound comparable to established groups.
