Hello, September — a new month means a variety of new events + things to do all across the Alamo City. From Hispanic Heritage Month to the Mermaid Capital of Texas, here are eight events we can’t wait to attend this month.

Mermaid Fest | Sat., Sept. 24 | 10 a.m.-8 p.m. | Downtown San Marcos | Free | Get ready for merfolk to take over San Marcos with a day celebrating the culture, art, and heritage of this city.

Bierfest | Sat., Sept. 24 | 11 a.m.-7 p.m. | Boerne | $30+ | Sample from more than 30 of the best craft breweries in Texas in a commemorative sampling stein + enjoy live music and activities.

El Grito San Antonio | Thurs., Sept. 15-Sun., Sept. 18 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Milam Park | Free | Head to this downtown park for a cultural program that celebrates Mexico’s independence.

Diez y Seis Mariachi Festival | Sat., Sept. 24 | 12-9 p.m. | Arneson River Theatre | Free | The Mariachi Festival features performances by middle and high school students from schools the Alamo City.
