Howdy, San Antonio.

We’re now just over a week away from the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. While all the action officially starts on Thursday, Feb. 8, we want to give our readers — whether it’s your first time or your tenth — a heads up on what to expect.

What’s the Rodeo?

The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is a month-long western celebration complete with 19 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association performances that are certain to entertain the whole family. Think: Bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and bull riding.

The events are formatted tournament-style with contestants competing each night for the opportunity to be crowned the San Antonio Rodeo Champion.

More than a stock show

Good news — If the stock show is not your thing (we won’t blame you, those barns are not the friendliest on the nose), there’s still plenty for you to enjoy. Stop by the fairgrounds for your pick of classic carnival games + fair food.

You can also pay a visit to hundreds of vendors at the expo hall — how many flannels are too many flannels? Pro tip: Check out the map to pique your curiosity before even stepping foot inside.

Boot Scootin’ Boogie

And, what’s Rodeo without a bit of live music? Here are a few concerts we ain’t missing for a thang:

Midland | Fri., Feb. 9 | $33+ | Picture it: You’re singing to “Drinkin’ Problem,” with a margarita in hand + your best buds by your side.

Brad Paisley | Sat., Feb. 10 | $33+ | This concert is everything we ever wanted.

Grupo El Duelo | Sun., Feb. 18 | $33+ | See this Mexican norteño band from Roma, Texas perform.

John Michael Montgomery | Mon., Feb. 19 | $33+ | Catch a performance by the “I Love the Way You Love Me” singer.
