From its summer block parties to weekly night markets, Pearl knows how to bring the community together for a celebration.

This year’s holiday season is no exception with newly announced programming for Día de los Muertos.

Pearl will honor the traditional Mexican holiday — which remembers loved ones who have died — on Wed., Nov. 2 from 5-9 p.m. All festivities will be free and open to the public.

Save the date

Celebrations at Pearl begin at 5 p.m. with activities throughout the property, some of which include:
Additionally, El Rincon del Alebrije, presented by the Mexican Consulate, will host a wooden guitars + calavera coin bank paint station for kids.

Altars + art installations

  • Community Altar | This year’s community altar will be created by artist and teacher Hector Garza and his students from Incarnate Word High School. The altar will be dedicated to all women who have lived incredible lives of struggle and resilience. Try this: Write a name on an LED candle to illuminate the altar.
  • Mexican Cultural Institute Altar | Honoring the life of Vicente Fernández, the Mexican Cultural Institute will display an altar for the Mexican singer, songwriter, actor, and film producer.
  • Catrina Garden + Altar | Artist Regina Moya will showcase four papier-mâché Catrinas to display alongside an altar dedicated to San Antonio community activist Emma Tenayuca.
  • Marigold Passage | Sisters and artists Manola and Maria Ramirez, part of the all-female collective Lavaca Studios, will create an immersive and interactive experience.
The altars will be available for viewing from Nov. 1-6. Follow Historic Pearl on Instagram and Facebook for updates.

Fiesta Feet’s colorful huaraches in San Antonio, TX

SATX_huaraches.png
Express yourself with vibrant shoes — huarache waiting for? | Photo by @fiestafeet
Fiesta Feet is a Mexican-owned zapatería that sells colorful huaraches created by artisans in an array of styles that include flats, platforms + heels.

Buying your next (or first) pair of huaraches helps support young girls in need. A portion of the proceeds are directed towards supporting Casa Kamani — a foster home for survivors of abuse located in Guadalajara, Mexico.

What is a huarache? Simply put, the shoe originates from the Nahua people of Pre-Columbian Mexico. The sandals vary in material and design, but they each feature intricate woven details that make them unique to any other shoe.

You can purchase a pair of huaraches using Fiesta Feet’s online store.

Editor’s pick: I hear you loud and clear. With over 126,000 views, one of our latest Instagram posts clearly shows that SATX loves the movie theater (especially when it’s $1 admission). I’d love to know what your go-to theater is. Mine is the Palladium for IMAX showtimes.
