What do Hemisfair Park, AT&T Center, and the San Antonio River Walk have in common? These landmark projects, among many that have shaped the 210 into what it is today, have all sought the expertise of the Alterman Inc., San Antonio’s oldest and largest electrical contractor.

Let’s take a look the company’s influence in San Antonio.

⚡ A century in the making
Since 1923, Alterman has been involved in some of the Alamo City’s most iconic builds + commercial remodels. Here’s a brief timeline of major projects:
  • 1923 — Nathan Alterman formed Nathan Alterman Electric Co., Ltd. at the age of 24.
  • Late 1930s — Alterman was awarded the first San Antonio River beautification project, installing conduit and wiring to light the Arneson River Theater and walkways.
  • 1968 — The company’s services were used to complete 30 monumental projects at Hemisfair Park for the 1968 World’s Fair — see the photos.
  • 1990s — After becoming an employee-owned company in 1984, Alterman was hired by publishing company Harcourt, Brace and Jovanovich during the early days of “SeaWorld of Texas.”
  • Present — The company has since worked on projects like the Alamodome, Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, and the ongoing San Pedro Creek Cultural Park.
⚡ New beginnings
Nearing its centennial, the SATX-based company broke ground on its new $60 million headquarters in Live Oak, across IKEA and the RBFCU headquarters buildings.

Plans for Phase I of the future corporate campus at 7805 N. Loop 1604 East have officially been submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Think: ample outdoor areas for employees, a prefabrication and logistics warehouse, as well as space for future expansions — take a look at what’s to come.

The new campus is expected help further position Alterman as one of the leading electrical contractors in Texas with cutting-edge technology and economic growth opportunities.

  • One of the last remnants of San Antonio’s old Tejano district, Laredito, is facing potential demolition. The San Antonio River Authority is asking to tear down A.W. Walter House, an old two-story landmark residing in what is left of “Mexican downtown.” 🚧 (San Antonio Express-News)
