The Witte Museum announced its President and CEO Marise McDermott is stepping down from her position after 20 years of service in December. She was hired in 2004 to help with the stabilization of the museum’s finances.

The board voted to name McDermott its President Emeritus starting in January 2024. McDermott will stay continue to work on projects related to the 100th anniversary celebration of the museum in 2026.

“It has been my great privilege to serve the beloved Witte Museum, working with the great Witte team is a daily inspiration. Serving the vision and leadership of the Witte Board of Trustees has been exhilarating.” said McDermott in a statement.

As she transitions out of leadership, a Succession Planning Committee was created by the Witte Board of Trustees to select the next President and CEO.
