Each year, monarch butterflies migrate from Canada to Mexico and pass through Texas. These butterflies are looking for warmer climate to vacation until March — when they’ll return to Texas to lay eggs.

Migration starts in August, but the event’s peak takes place in October. Enter: The Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival.

San Antonio has celebrated our pretty pollinator pals with nine editions of this annual fest. Here are the details so you can plan accordingly:

  • Happening on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Taking place at the Pecan Grove, Cypress Pavilion, and Koehler Pavilion in Brackenridge Park
  • Over 30 educational experiences, including how to tag monarch butterflies
  • Admission is free

Fun fact: San Antonio became the nation’s first Monarch Butterfly Champion City in 2015. The initiative is to increase habitat access and educate the community on the importance of protecting local pollinators.
