The San Antonio Street Art Initiative — an artist-run, independent nonprofit looking to build the largest outdoor gallery in Texas — will host its first Youth Street Art Exhibit and Fundraiser on Sat., Oct. 8.
The exhibit, named TZOMPANTLI , will be featured as part of the A Day in Southtown festival, which will be free and open to the public.
About SASAI’s commitment to youth
The nonprofit launched its Youth Street Art Department and new Youth Art Program early this month. Here’s a quick snapshot of how it works.
- Learning skills: 10 high school students were recruited to learn spray paint handling and other fine art techniques. All received stipends.
- High profile resume building: The program features projects sponsored by corporate brands to help students build impressive resumes.
- Mentorship: Taught in four-week cycles, the program is instructed and lead by contemporary Chicano artist Rubio .

Support local artists
The inaugural program cohort is currently preparing for SpiritLandia , the largest Day of the Dead river parade and Celebration in the US.
The community will have an opportunity to take a sneak peek at the students’ progress at SASAI’s studio during the festival. Prints of the students’ works will be sold to raise funds.
You can head to the SASAI Art Gallery at 1906 Complex, 1906 S. Flores St. to help fund the next generation of artists.
Celebrate community in Southtown
Visit local galleries, shop among artisans, sample distillery drinks, and savor culinary eats. There will be something for everyone in Southtown next Saturday.
