The Hardberger Land Bridge project was recently awarded the Project of the Year title by the American Public Works Association Texas chapter.
This landmark project was unveiled on Dec. 11, 2020 as the largest wildlife bridge in the world + is earning national acclaim.
The bridge is just one addition to the massive Phil Hardberger Park that opened in May 2010 and has since seen an explosion in further development projects.
In the recent months, a footbridge dubbed the Skywalk was installed as a way of allowing pedestrians to get a squirrel’s eye view of the surrounding area.
Here are just a few more features the park has to offer for San Antonians to enjoy on a breezy fall day:
Basketball courts — no reservations needed for a quick pick-up game at any of the two courts at the park.
Blue Playground — a state-of-the-art play area for the little ones to climb, swing, crawl + more.
Butterfly Garden — a raised garden bed made in the form of a butterfly created to protect the native pollinators.
Geology Trail — just one of five trails located at the park. It’s a perfect place for the aspiring geologist to learn about the layers of geologic sedimentation seen through the trek.
Salado Creek Overlook — a 60-foot long steel structure offering stunning views of the area.
