What better time than right now to snuggle up in a blanket with a good bookand a cup of coffee in hand’s reach for extra measure.

Here are some authors you might not have known are San Antonio natives.

📚 Rick Riordan

Odds are you or someone you know has heard of the name Percy Jacksonwell, you have Rick Riordan to thank for that. The award-winning Percy Jackson & the Olympians series has won the hearts of millions of YA fantasy novel enthusiasts. However, before the immense popularity of the series took off, Rick taught at middle schools in Texas for several years.

Pro tip: you can download an ebook or audiobook for free on San Antonio public library’s website as well as check out a physical copy wherever it’s available.

📚 Laurie Ann Guerrero

Not many authors have the privilege of being awarded the title of Poet Laureate of the State of Texas. In 2015, Chicana poet + Southside native Guerrero joined this exclusive club. She has recently added a fourth book to her impressive collection — “I Have Eaten the Rattlesnake: New & Selected and is currently working on her fifth.

📚 Shea Serrano

Does this name ring a bell? If it does, it might because we recently featured his twitter post on Monday’s newsletter. Shea is the first Mexican-American author to have four of his written works appear on the New York Times Best Sellers list. When he’s not working on his prolific career as a writer, you can catch him dishing out an impressive array of tweets from irreverent to inspiring.

Two birds one stone — why not grab a copy of Serrano’s work while looking for Guerreo’s at Twig Book Shop.

We hope this inspired you to dust off those bookcases and start reading. Looks like our weekends will be fully booked. 📚
